Carlos Soto-Román

NOTE: Carlos Soto-Román’s piece draws its title from one of the leading optics firms in the world. In Zeiss, we are confronted with a panoply of often irreconcilable rhetorical and visual optics regarding genetics, integrity, and personality. A central question dominates: How can we come to know another being? In this ongoing installation, Soto-Román suggests that the tacit, spiritual elements of identity appear as abstractly to us as a gel electrophoresis. Look for his upcoming poetic study on bioethics, con/science, out next fall from Corollary Press.  -- Sueyeun Juliette Lee
